Missions to Ukraine

The AFT and its partners have conducted a number of missions to Ukraine. These missions have shown union solidarity and had tangible outcomes for students and educators in Ukraine.

AFT Mission to Examine Education Destruction in Ukraine

May, 2023

The AFT and their international labor partners traveled to Kyiv to examine and highlight the destruction done to the Education system in Ukraine by Russia's ongoing invasion.

Ukraine Humanitarian Relief for Lviv Region Kindergartens

February, 2023

With help from our partners at the Ukraine Children's Action Project (UCAP), the education workers in Poland (ZNP) and Ukraine (TUESWU) and the Solidarity Center, the AFT was able to deliver 50 generators to power bomb shelters in Kindergartens across the Lviv region in Ukraine. This allowed kindergarten students to be able to return to the classroom safely amidst the war.

AFT Study Mission to Lviv: Cooperation of Trade Union Partners

October, 2022

At the invitation of TUESWU Randi Weingarten and a small delegation of AFT leaders visited Lviv to evaluate damage done to the Ukrainian Education system in the area. This visit also reaffirms the AFT's commitment to their partner unions in Ukraine and Poland.

Solidarity with Ukrainian Refugee Teachers and Students in Poland

April, 2022

This is the AFT's first official mission to Poland or Ukraine since the outbreak of the war at the end of February. At the ZNP's invitation, the AFT travelled to Poland to discuss humanitarian relief for Ukraine and their education system.
